Should Schools Supply Computers To All Students?

I do not believe that schools should have to provide every student with his or her own personal computer. Schools should have a computer lab in their building and if a student does not have a computer at home they can go to the library.

Yes, computers are very important but it is asking a bit much to have schools provide them for students. Like previously mentioned, students can go to either a computer lab or public library. It would be too expensive to provide every student with a computer and would be a waste if some students do not take care of them.

2010 Online Conference

I chose to watch an online conference video by Dr. Tyson who presented "The Classroom Teacher As a 21st Century Instructional Leader" in the “Leading the Change” strand of the 2010 conferences.  Dr. Tyson talks about how teachers need to be leaders in their classroom and as leaders we must adapt and understand the technological advances in the 21^st Century.

Dr. Tyson also spoke about how the United States is developing and their development rate compared to other countries. Unfortunately, the United States is ranked twelfth in science and seventeenth in math. The United States appears to be at a steady decline considering they were much higher in both categories ten years ago. Dr. Tyson believes that we must invest more in our nation’s future by investing more in our children’s education.

In conclusion, Dr. Tyson wants the American teachers to lead the nation in educating our youth. Not just educating, but investing in new technology and new ways of educating. The United States is beginning to fall behind in education and we must do something about it. There are too many schools that do not have suitable software or even up to date books.
