I do not believe that schools should have to provide every student with his or her own personal computer. Schools should have a computer lab in their building and if a student does not have a computer at home they can go to the library.
Yes, computers are very important but it is asking a bit much to have schools provide them for students. Like previously mentioned, students can go to either a computer lab or public library. It would be too expensive to provide every student with a computer and would be a waste if some students do not take care of them.
Some schools are looking at ways to make the cost of one-to-one computers more feasible. With 24/7 access to the Internet, are textbooks necessary? Not buying textbooks would save a lot of money. Do the one-to-one computers have to be the fastest and best? Could they be netbooks (less costly) with higher-end stations available at school? Can we go paperless in our classrooms and in school management? That would save many bucks now spent on paper and ink.
