Using Technology In The Classroom

I plan on using a lot of technology in the classroom when I become a teacher. I will use a variety of tools such as Microsoft Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Itunes, Smartboard, and numerous other things just to name a few. Technology makes one's life easier from the teacher to the student. I plan on applying what I have learned in this semester of Instructional Technology to the classroom and while using the technology. I will use webquests, class webpages, blogs, and podcasts. Before Instructional Technology I was a novice when it comes to technology, now I am more confident and I am excited to learn more!

Podcasting

SearchUnifiedCommunications.com defines podcasting as the preparation and distribution of audio files using RSS to the computers of subscribed users.

I will most likely use a good deal of podcasting in my classroom. I can make podcasts about information and curriculum in the classroom and I can send it to my students or their parents through the computer. The students can also download my podcasts to their mp3 players and listen to them on the go.

A pro of having podcasts is that they are easily accessible. One can listen to them almost anywhere and they are easy to make. A con of podcasts is that students will get lazy. Some may think since there are podcasts that they do not need to pay attention in class. Some may not do either!

Ethics

Wordnetweb.princeton.edu says that ethics is the philosophical study of moral values and rules.

In the classroom I will do whatever I can to instill ethics in the classroom. I think it is important to be a good example of character as a teacher for one's students.

I think a pro is if the students see the teacher act the way they morally should, the student will do the same. It is the monkey see monkey do concept.

I do not see any cons personally.

Teacher Web Page

A teacher web page is a web page created by a teacher that holds information about class. It is for students or parents to retrieve information about what is happening in the class.

I will use a teacher web page to post class activities, extra practice for students, and information on what is happening in class. I will have information on my teacher page for students that have missed class due to illness or any other reason.

A pro for a teacher web page is that it makes teacher parent communication easy. It is also helpful for students to stay on top of their lessons, homework, and assistance for whatever they are struggling in.
A con for a teacher web page is that it will constantly need updated. Some teachers have little time for extra things and that last thing they need is something to update on a regular basis.

Webquests

Discovery Education defines a webquest as an inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the information that students interact with comes from resources on the internet. In the classroom, I will either make or find fun and educational webquests. I will set the children up with a webquest and allow their imaginations to soar. If they have any problems I will assist them.

Some pros for webquests are that they are fun, educational, and grabs the students' attention.
Some cons for webquests are that they are time consuming and students may get distracted in them.

Virtual Tours!

According to Webopedia, a virtual tour is defined as:

A panoramic view or video simulation of an existing place that can be viewed online, often for travel or vacation-related research. A virtual tour is usually a collection of panoramic images that are played in sequence to view like a moving video with added sound and text effects, or a virtual tour may use models in place of real-life video and images. A virtual your is designed to give the viewer a more life-like 3D view of the location being presented in the tour. Virtual tours are also popular in the real estate industry where a realistic 3D view of a home or property can be presented to interested purchasers. A virtual tour may also be called a panoramic tour.

I believe that a virtual tour can be a tour of anything, from a geographical place to an internet website.

In the classroom I will use virtual tours to show my students just about anything. In geography I can take my students on a virtual tour of the white house or almost anywhere that my curriculum is talking about at the time.

One pro for using virtual tours is that they are easily accessible. One con is that it could make teachers and students lazy. In the future classes will take virtual tours instead of field trips.
